...really burns me up. I have never encountered this before from the other two states that I've lived in: Colorado ( and New Mexico (4 yrs).
It's based on the tax value of the vehicle. For instance our Celica has a "New Tax Value" for this year of $406.80. This is taxed as "Property Tax" of $34.17, along with a $33.00 "Registration/Service Fee" (that is prorated), a reflector fee (WTF?) of $0.50 and Sedgwick County fee of $2.00. This totals $69.67. (I have a veterans tag.)
For instance our Tacoma has a "New Tax Value" for this year of $961.50. This is taxed as "Property Tax" of $80.75, along with a $43.00 "Registration/Service Fee" (that is prorated), and Sedgwick County fee of $2.00. This totals $125.75. (Erica has a handicap plate.)
For both of our vehicles, we pay taxes/fees of $195.42. This has a separate item line for our budget and gets smaller each year. In Kansas, we register our vehicles by our last name, "SWEDE", and always pay in August. This year we waited until the last minute and encountered a very long line. The only thing that could be more daunting is the property taxes on a home.
